A Translation Project Report Of The History Of Anhui Huangmei Opera Theatre(1953--2003)

The functional translation theory has been a distinctive and influential translation theory in western translation circles for the past decades. According to this theory, translation is a kind of cultural transfer, communicative interaction and a target language function oriented cross-culture event, which is consistant with the features and requirements of pragmatic translation represented by the external publicity and introduction of cultural institutions. Therefore, functional translation theory could be effective in the external publicity and introduction of cultural institutions.This translation project report makes a preliminary research about the English translation of cultural institutions from the perspective of functional translation theory and illustrates the source text’s main content, writing style and translation problems taking the book of The History of Anhui Huangmei Opera theatre as an example. In addition, this report tries to use corresponding translation strategies and methods to improve the quality of translated versions under the guidance of functional translation theory. Finally, this report concludes that functional translation theory has a strong practical significance to pragmatic translation and it can also provide a powerful theoretical support for pragmatic translation.
