In this thesis, a study of explicitation in the Chinese-English interpretation, the author analyses the definition of explicitation and reviews the current researches at home and abroad, with literature reading and case study as the research methods. With a view to explore the explicitation strategies in the Chinese-English interpretation and to improve quality of interpretation, the purposes and strategies of explicitation are categorized in this paper. It has been raised that the three purposes of explicitation are to complete sentence structure, to complete context and to care about the audience. With case studies, it is found that the interpreters can choose certain explicitation strategies in line with certain purposes. The innovation of this study lies in classifying explicitation strategies into three types:adding new information, replacing information in the source language and repeating the existing information. Interpreters should have a better understanding of explicitation strategies and apply them accordingly when necessary. The author then points out that interpreters should have a strong cross-cultural awareness and a good command of both languages and specific training is necessary in this regard. Only in this way could the interpreters adopt the right explicitation strategy at the right time in interpretation.
