| RFQ, abbreviation for Request for Quotation, is a document in Auto industry. A profound interpretation of RFQ is prerequisite for manufacturing high quality products. Over the past decades, auto components corporations have been building cooperation with worldwide auto makers, such as GM, Ford, VW, Nissan and etc. For most RFQs, SORs and other files are all in English, English-Chinese translation of written documents in auto industry has been increasingly necessary.This paper is an English-Chinese translation report on "RFQ of SVW511CS Ambient Lighting". It is mainly composed of four parts:translation practice introduction, language characteristics analysis, preparation before translation and case study. In translation practice introduction, the writer introduced the practice itself, its background and implication. The writer thought that the success of this translation practice was mostly attributed to sufficient preparation before translation. To do well in this practice, the writer, on the one hand, read relevant auto books and dictionaries; on the other hand, carefully studied characteristics of science and technology documents and their translation methods. In addition, the writer began this translation practice under the guidance of SKOPOS theory. In proofreading, this report was reviewed by the writer itself as well as Daniel. Shi and other engineers to ensure a correct interpretation of RFQ. And then, the writer reorganized the words to present a better Chinese version of RFQ on ambient lighting. In case study, the writer discussed the problems she met in translating this RFQ and the methods employed. Problems were mainly correct understanding of terms, translation of passive sentences, long and complex sentences and postpositive attributes. The write hopes that this translation report is conducive to those new translators being engaged in auto industry translation. |
