A Study On The Obstacles In English Guide-interpretation And Its Interpreting Strategies From The Perspective Of Functionalist Translation Theory

With the increasing of the international exchanges since the implement ofreform and opening-up policy, tourism industry has worked as the primaryintercultural communication activities during these years. Due to the rapiddevelopment of tourism, China has occupied the vital position among these greattravelling nations. Along with the rising up of the inbound tourism and outboundtourism, guide interpretation gains a crucial status in the tourism services. Asan effective approach which makes foreign visitors know Chinese culture rapidlyand directly, guide interpretation influences the foreign visitors’ tourismfeeling. Nowadays, due to the development of tourism, guide-interpreter has becomea hot profession. However, there still seldom treaties research on the tourisminterpreting theory and its strategies.In this thesis, the author attempts to find its interpreting strategies on theperspective of functionalist translation theory. Combining the functionalisttranslation theory with the features of the guide interpretation, the author triesto explain its guiding significance on the guide interpretation activities andenrich the relevant theories. All of these can help the guide-interpreters improvethe interpreting quality of their services.Through the author’s brief introduction of the Germany functionalisttranslation theory, the thesis will explore the major reasons on the formation ofthe intercultural communicative barriers, especially on the perspective of the coretheories of functionalism, the Skopostheorie and action theory. At the same time,based on the unique feature of the guide interpretation, translation brief of theguide interpretation will be proposed under the guidance of the functionalism. Byanalyzing the examples which occurred in the guide interpretation practice to findthe effective interpreting strategies which could function for theguide-interpreters to enhance their interpreting abilities.Through the demonstration, the author shows that the Germany functionalisttranslation theory could work effectively in the guide interpreting activities,which possesses great value in the field of guide interpretation theory research.Functionalist translation theory has important practical significance in guideinterpretation activities.
