Benjamin was one of the famous literary critic in the20th century, he was famous for his poetic&outstanding style of writing, and well known as his mystic and legendary life. He did not stop writing in his whole life, and had witnessed the huge change of that era with his brilliant writing and unique view, because of this, his work has a great influence on postmodern art criticism. In his later years, Benjamin summarized a kind of personal aesthetics——aura when he faced a form of art which is taken over by mechanistic. After then, he made the determination for the devaluation of the art form which is intervened by mechanistic. Facing the two concepts, Benjamin was caught in wandering. Marxist materialism led him to recognize that the art of mechanical reproduction was in the inevitability and rationality; and the early years’s metaphysical spirit made him felt nostalgic®ret for aura art. A series of his founding played an important role in development of modern art in that era.This article highlights the wandering of Benjamin with the characteristics of art in19th century, which is with the analysis of two dimensions of dilemma in Benjamin’s thought and with the knot of aura. The aim is to highlight the significance that art aesthetics had brought to modern art.Today, Benjamin’s criticism has deep influence on mechanizd art, especially on the art that tends to be commercial and formalism, for example, the moving pictures. The dilemma faced by Benjamin also put forward higher requirement for the modern art and its creative. How to show the inherent tension? And where is the future goal? This is the inspiration that Benjamin brought to us, and also is the core key of art.The writer discussed Benjamin’s thought, revealed the form of dilemma of his thought, found the performance of dilemma in the form of modern art, and then analyzed its value.
