| Objective:(1) To understand the development of self-identity status of college freshmen.(2)To investigate the relationship between self-identity, inferiority and fear of intimacy. Methods:Using convenient sampling method to obtain530subjects. The subjects accept a series of tests including Extend Objective Measure of Ego-Identity Status-2, Feelings of Inadequacy Scale, and Fear of Intimacy Scale. Using spss18.0software for statistical analysis.Results:(1) The majority of freshmen are in identity moratorium status (183), accounting for36.3%of the total students; Followed by identity diffusion (166) account for33.1%of the students; Identity achievement for the number of minimum (60), accounting for12%of the total students.(2)The distribution of self-identity status of college freshmen presents gender differences.(3) There exists significantly negative correlation between identity achievement dimensions and intimate fear and inferiority complex.(r=-.297, p<0.01and r=-.312, p<0.01); Foreclosure dimension has non-significant relationship with inferiority complex, intimate fear(r=.096, p>0.01, r=.056, p>0.01); Moratorium dimension is positively related to inferiority complex,(r=.194, p<0.01); There exist significant positive correlation between diffusion dimension and intimate fear, inferiority complex,(r=.251, p<0.01and r=.288, p<0.01).(4) the results show that the inferiority complex acts as a complete intermediary role between diffusion dimension and fear of intimacy; Inferiority complex acts as partial intermediary role between identity achievement and fear of intimacy.Conclusion:(1) The development of self-identity of college freshmen is not optimistic and most of the freshmen are in diffusion and moratorium status; only a few students are in achievement status.(2) The distribution of self-identity status of college freshmen presents gender differences.(3) The level of inferiority complex and intimate fear of identity achievement individual is lower; moratorium is the maladjustment of state and the individual’s sense of inferiority, intimate fear is higher.(4) Achievement status can negatively predict individual inferiority complex and intimate fear; diffusion status can positively forecast inferiority complex and intimate fear.(5) Inferiority complex acts as a complete mediating role between diffusion dimension and fear of intimacy; Inferiority complex acts as partial intermediary role between identity achievement and fear of intimacy. |
