| In recent years, China’s economy has grown and the communication with the international community has been increased substantially, so the demands for high-level, pragmatic translators and interpreters are much increased. In respond, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council has approved MTI, cultivating morally, intellectually and physically developed, high-level, applicable, professional translators and interpreters, who can meet the needs of the global economic integration, enhancing our international competitiveness, and our economic, cultural and social construction. Also, they should be capable of working in different professional fields with their proficient skills and broad knowledge.As an important method to improve cross-language and cross-culture communication, translation encourages China and other countries to learn from each other in aspects of economics and cultures.2008Beijing Olympic Games are a great turning point for China to perform on the international stage; therefore, it’s significant to study the translations related to the Olympics. In this paper, the Chinese-English translation process of2008Beijing Olympic documentary texts and the problems in it are analyzed.In Chapter One, the introduction part, basic information of MTI and background information of translation practice are briefly introduced. In Chapter Two, texts are analyzed before they are translated. Translation, not only converting one language into another one, is also a process of converting a culture into another one that shows different social features. In this case, while in translating texts, the differences of languages and cultures and ways of thinking of people in two nations should be considered. Texts in appendixes reveal Chinese culture and Olympic meaning in different angles. Good translation of them could increase publicity and the world will know more about Chinese culture. Based on habits and minds of readers, the target language should be properly adjusted. In Chapter Three, the translating process is introduced. In Chapter Four, the examples of target texts are analyzed, including the understanding of source language, the expression of target language and the final revision. In Chapter Five, the conclusion is made. While translating, the meaning of source language should be precisely expressed; meanwhile, the target language should be in accordance with its cultures, which needs excellent translators with professional abilities. Plenty of experience leads to a winner in future translation. |
