| The reform of College English Teaching in China is being deepened constantly; one of the important elements is how to effectively evaluate the College English teaching, teachers’teaching ability and effect. The establishment and application of College English teachers’performance evaluation index system will effectively measure the English teachers’teaching and scientific research ability, and reflect the current situation of College English teaching as well. Meanwhile, it can help establish a more scientific, humane and institutionalized competition system for English teachers. Study of College English teachers’performance evaluation is of great importance for improving College English teaching, arousing the teachers’ enthusiasm and promoting the reform of the personnel system and distribution system.This paper mainly includes three parts:in the first part, the theoretical basis of the research of teacher performance evaluation is stated. The relevant theories, such as teacher evaluation theory, teaching process theory and incentive theory are introduced in this part. In the second part, college English teachers’performance evaluation is discussed. The study in this part is mainly about definition, particularity, principle and meaning of college English teachers’performance evaluation. In part three, the study is mainly about the English teachers’ performance evaluation of a university in Chengdu. The main contents are the evaluation policy and the index system of performance evaluation in this university. Based on the English teachers-targeted questionnaire and interviews, the current situation of the English teachers’performance evaluation and existing problems are stated, and corresponding suggestions are put forward for improvement.This research is composed of four chapters,In chapter one, the background, significance of the topic, research object and methods, literature review and the domestic and overseas theories on teacher performance evaluation are introduced. In chapter two, the theory and relevant concept of College English teachers’ performance evaluation are introduced. The introduction focuses on the teacher evaluation theory, teaching process theory and incentive theory. At the same time, the College English teachers’performance evaluation’s meaning is given; the particularity, principles and significance of the evaluation are pointed out.In chapter three, the content is mainly about the English teachers’ performance evaluation of a university in Chengdu. The details are introduction of the relevant policies and performance evaluation index system of this university. Based on the questionnaire and interviews, the status of this kind of evaluation and the existing problems are stated.Chapter four is about the main conclusions and suggestions. Based on the in-depth study, the investigation and analysis of the English teachers’performance evaluation in the university, and the relevant theories of teacher performance evaluation, the problems of the English teachers’evaluation, some suggestions are discussed.To sum up, through the study of related theory on College English teachers’ performance, the in-depth study of the current situation and index system of the evaluation of a university in Chengdu, a questionnaire and interview, the author holds that college English teachers’performance evaluation has its particularity, and the building of evaluation index system is of great importance. It is crucial to choose diversified evaluation subjects, widely adopt the views of all sides, formulate scientific and reasonable performance evaluation system for English teachers, and adopt reasonable evaluation methods to promote the growth of College English teaching faculty and the improvement of English teaching quality. |
