Fuzziness of language is one basic feature of human natural language. Scholarsboth home and abroad have made numerous researches and analyses concerning thefuzziness of language. Great achievements have been made as a result. However, moststudies focus on the analyses of the pragmatic functions of fuzzy information inreading and translation. Few studies are done in exploring influencing factors of fuzzyinformation coping abilities.The dissertation is an empirical study of the influencing factors of fuzzyinformation coping abilities for MTI Interpreting majors. The subjects of the study are10second-year MTI Interpreting majors. By means of Interpreting test, questionnaireand open-end interview, the study aims to explore whether fuzzy information copingtechniques and background knowledge of the relevant topic will affect the interpretingquality for the student interpreters. The study also tries to discover some other factors’which might affect the quality of students fuzzy information interpreting. The purposeof the study is to provide meaningful guidance for the student interpreters to improvetheir abilities in dealing with fuzzy information interpreting.The study has reached the following conclusions:1) There exists a positivecorrelation between the coping techniques of fuzzy information interpreting andquality of interpreting. The grasp of coping techniques makes the interpreting of fuzzyinformation more accurate and more fluent.2) Background knowledge of somerelevant topics positively influence the student interpreters’ abilities in dealing withfuzzy information. Under the circumstance when both of the two Groups of studentinterpreters have been instructed the coping techniques, the more knowledge theinterpreters have about relevant topics, the more fluent, idiomatic and accurate theirinterpreting will be. Moreover, the language skills,psychological condition and someother factors of the student interpreters will also affect their abilities in dealing withfuzzy information. To sum up, based on the influencing factors, student interpretersshould take relevant measures to improve their fuzzy information coping abilities, thusimprove their interpreting ability as a whole.
