Currently, a large number of Chinese net neologisms originate from social issues. There are mainly two strategies contributing to translating new expressions, namely traditional translation strategies and radical translation strategies. However, previous researches paid much attention to the improvement and supplementation of the traditional translation strategies. The cultural reason hidden behind the translation phenomenon remains unresolved. This thesis tries to make a comparative research on two translation strategies from the perspective of Bourdieu’s sociology. There are three major notions deriving from Bourdieu’s sociological theory:Field, Habitus and Capital. The theory explores the interactive relation between translator and the culture field. This thesis intends to make a further discussion on Chinese net neologisms that have aroused extensive attention of society in Chinese culture field. Firstly, the existing English translations are classified according to the different translation strategies adopted. And then, the characteristics of the two different translation strategies are analyzed and summarized. Moreover, in order to investigate the reflections of different English translations of the public, the sociological methods such as questionnaire survey online and face-to-face interview are adopted. Afterwards, this thesis concludes the advantages and disadvantages of different translation strategies respectively. Finally, two different translations of Chinese net neologisms are traced out from the perspective of Bourdieu’s sociology. The research has nosed out the facts that various elements of culture field have been combined to exert influence on English translations. The translators’choices of translation strategies are influenced by political openness, economic situations and mass media’s guidance. Meanwhile, the habitus and capital of translators will be formed or shaped under the influence of field. On the one hand, in order to maintain a dominant status in translation field, translator tends to apply the traditional translation strategies. On the other hand, to make their voice heard, radical translation strategies are adopted by young translator. To maximize profits, radical translation strategies for English translations will be promoted. Once the right of speech has been grasped by the public, the original controversial social issues will be settled in a suitable manner. In conclusion, the choice of English translation strategies is affected by the culture field. At the same time, the habitus of translator is shaped by the interaction with Chinese culture field. In order to pursue the cultural capital, different translation strategies are adopted.
