In recent years, especially after the2008Beijing Olympic Games and2010Shanghai WorldExpo, China’ interaction and communication with the world have become increasingly frenquent.According to official statistics, the number of guests from abroad to the mainland has beencontinuously increasing since2008. Among all the communication activities, exchange programsin colleges and universities play an absolutely important role. In recent years, postgraduateprograms of translation and interpreting are set up in more and more colleges and universities.However, most of the students in these programs are not competent enough to deal withinterpreting situations. Competent escort interpreters are badly needed.The RRU Overseas Program is designed by Canada Royal Road University and sponsoredjointly by Shandong Normal University (SDNU) for students who want to pursue their careers inintercultural or international communication. It involves a wide variety of activities and occasionsand varies in ways of communication.Taking the RRU Overseas Program at SDNU as a case study, this report identifies the mostfrenquetly made problems during the students interpreting process, such as the choice of words,interpreter’s role cognition and repetition. Corresponding strategies such as coorperation, additionand lag adjustment are also put forward in the last part aiming to offer suggestions to studentinterpreters.
