A Report On Interpreting Practice Of Overseas Study Program Of Dalian Bi An Education Training School

This is an interpreting practice report.The content of this report is on the basis of the interpreting practice of the writer for Bi An Education Training School.The writer conducts the forms of consecutive interpreting and liaison interpreting in this practice.Selecting the problems in the practice for analysis,the writer looks back on them and analyzes them by applying the theoretical framework of Adaptation Theory proposed by Jef Verschueren.The interpreting strategies and solutions to the problems are also provided by the writer.The practice report contains the following five parts.The first part introduces the background of Bi An Education Training School,the work of the writer in details and the contribution of the writer.The second part elaborates on the Adaptation Theory of Jef Verschueren and the three dimensions as the theoretical framework.The third part is the key part of this report.The problems which the writer encountered during the field practice are summarized and categorized as following:accent problems,time control,professional words,cultural differences,language use,etc.The writer applied Adaptation Theory to analyze all of them in depth including both the successful rendering,the causes and solutions of the shortcomings in the interpreting.The fourth part is the etiquettes in the interpreting.The writer set it in a separate chapter for the reason that etiquette problems the writer came across do not only result from cultural differences.The writer hopes the concluded points could be helpful to the other interpreters.The last part is the limitations and implications of this practice report.Through this practice,the writer concludes that interpreting needs to fulfill the aim of communication.Based on that,the interpreter could be bold enough to interpret by applying adaptation strategies to adjust linguistic elements at all levels and add or omit messages according to the context.Methods in pre-interpreting preparation like written translation of the scripts/speeches,knowledge gathering in advance,etc.could help the adaptation of context.The writer hopes that the conclusion above could give an aid to the future interpreting practice of my own and also for others.
