Under the background of globalization, exchanges between different nations are increasing rapidly. Interpreters, as the communication bridge, are playing a more and more important role. Liaison interpreting can be regarded as the most-widely used type in the interpreting field. Professor Gile once pointed out that the interpreters for business and culture exchanges are in great demand instead of the conference interpreters (Zhan,2010:1). So the cultivation of the liaison interpreters should be paid more attention to. Here this thesis studies the liaison interpreting strategies so as to help the training and cultivation of liaison interpreters. This thesis summarizes the studies about liaison interpreting in academic field, finding that there are not many researches about it. Based on the previous studies, this thesis applies adaptation theory to the study of coping strategies of liaison interpreting by giving some real-life examples and puts forward some suggestions for further studies.Research can be done from four angles, namely contextual correlates of adaptability, structural objects of adaptability, dynamics of adaptability and salience of adaptability according to adaptation theory. This thesis makes analysis from the perspective of context, namely linguistic and communicative context, to summarize some practical coping strategies of liaison interpreting. The sites of liaison interpreting are diversified with informal and flexible conversation through a bi-directional communication way. The liaison interpreter, as the third part of the activity, plays a role of facilitating communication. So the application to the liaison interpreting could be a great help to the successful communication. What is more, this study will help students of MTI gain a better understanding of liaison interpreting and give some guidance to the interpreting practitioners.
