Abstract/Summary:
Purpose: To explore the incidence rates, the severity and the correlative factors ofsuicidal ideation in the suicide survivors after the loved one committed suicide.Toexplore the difference of suicidal ideation among suicide survivors, accident survivorsand disease survivors. And to provide a scientific evidence of the intervention andprevention for the rural area suicide survivors. Methods: Randomly selecting eight villages from the town of a county or city withinDalian City in Liaoning Province as sample site. Collecting all of suicide accident anddisease deceased5years between1st October2006and1st October2011, andchoosing13relatives (parents, spouses, children, siblings) of the deceased of thedeceased as research object. Using Beck scale for suicide ideation-chineseversion(BSI-CV),Suicide Attitude Questionnaire (QSA),Hamilton DepressionScale(HAMD),The Impact of Event Scale-R(IES-R),Grief Experience Questionnaire(GEQ),Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), Symptom Check List (SCL-90),CopingStyles Questionnaire (CSQ), NEO-Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), Paykel’sInterview for Recent Life Events (IRLE), the Chinese version of the Structured ClinicalInterview for DSM-IV (SCID) and Social Demography Questionnaire as researchtools for all the bereaved,including254suicide survivors of200completedsuicides,100accident survivors of75unexpected deaths and111disease survivors of81disease death,to do the one-to-one on-scene psychological interview andquestionnaire.Results:(1)The rate of the previous suicidal ideation when it is the most serious amongrural suicide survivors is31.5%,there are significant differences in terms ofgender(X2=5.726,p<0.05),type of relatives(X2=37.441,p<0.001),economicstates(X2=9.554,p<0.05)and the relationgship with the deceased(X2=11.922,p<0.05).(2)The incidence rate of the suicidal ideation in the latest week among rural suicide survivor is10.6%,there is significant difference in terms of therelationship with the deceased(X2=13.114, p=0.004).(3)The severity of previoussuicidal ideation when it is in the most serious among suicide survivors exists markeddifference in gender(Z=-2.817, p=0.005),type of relatives(X2=41.347,p=0.000),economic states(X2=10.333,p=0.006)and the relationgship with the deceased(X2=18.072,p=0.000).(4)The severity of suicidal ideation of suicide survivor in thelastest week exists marked difference in gender(Z=-2.571, p=0.010),type ofrelatives(X2=18.320, p=0.011),economic states(X2=7.715, p=0.021),healthstates(X2=11.581, p=0.003)and the relationgship with the deceased (X2=8.123,p=0.044).(5)The degree of suicidal ideation in3-5years among three groups existssignificantly difference(2=7.260,p=0.027).(6)Multivariate binary logistic regressionshowed that Depression of SCL90(β=6.695) and PTSD(β=1.047) are the risk factors ofthe suicidal ideation.Mature coping styles (β=0.904)and agreeableness of Big FivePersonality(β=0.019) are protective factors.(7) Multiple stepwise regression analysisshowd that psychotic of SCL90(β=0.177),family support(β=-0.161),HAMDdepression(β=0.257),neuroticism of Big Five Personality(β=0.188)and understandingattitude of suicidal behavior (β=-0.107)were associated with degree of suicidalideation of suicide survivors.Conclusions:(1) The rate of the previous suicidal ideation when it is the most seriousamong rural suicide survivors is31.5%,and the rate of women’s is higher thanman’s,followed by the accident survivors (30.0%)and the disease survivors(27.9%),butthere are no significant different in these three groups. The incidence rate of thesuicidal ideation in the lastest week among rural suicide survivors is10.6%,women’s(13.6%) was higher than men’s(8.1%).(2)The rate of previous andcurrent suicidal ideation when it is the most serious among the mother bereaved areboth the highest,,followed by the wives bereaved, and the sisters bereaved minimum of10%.(3)The rate of suicidal ideation in suicide survivors who have good relationshipwith the deceased accounts for57.7%. suicide survivors who have bad relationship with thedeceased do not have suicidal ideation. When the previous suicidal ideation is in the mostserious, suicide survivors whose family economic status is poor have the highestincidence rate of suicidal ideation.(4)The rate of suicidal ideation among suicide survivors did not decrease over time.(5)In the severity of suicidal ideation,,women’swas higher than men’s,and the mother bereaved is the most serious, followed by thespouses bereaved.(6)The more intimate relationship and the worse economic status andhealth status with suicide survivors, the more serious suicidal ideation they have.(7)Theseverity of suicidal ideation among suicide survivors when the suicide happened in3to5years is unexpectedly increased and significantly higher than the other twogroups.(8)Risk factors of suicidal ideation for the rural suicide survivors are depressionof SCL-90and PTSD symptoms; agreeableness of Big Five Personality and mature typeof coping style are protective factors.(9) The degree of suicidal ideation for ruralsuicide survivors strengthens with psychosis factor of SCL-90,HAMD depression andNeuroticism.Degree of suicidal ideation for rural suicide survivors weakens with thegood family support and a correct understanding of the nature of suicide.
