Report On Interpretation Of Yuelu Academy

For more than one thousand years, academic and educational activities have keptuninterrupted in Yuelu Academy, hence Hunan University gets its renowned slogan“One Thousand-Year-Old Institution of Education”, and Hunan University is one of theoldest universities in the world. Yuelu Academy is a combination of historical value,humanistic significance and social influence. Inside it, there are numbers of horizontalboards, couplets and stone tablets indicating its cultural background. With quick processof internationalization of Hunan University, international exchange activities areincreasingly frequent. For delegations of foreign universities visiting Hunan University,the Yuelu Academy is a must-see place if they want to find out more about the profoundculture of Hunan University.To help foreign guests understand the cultural heritage of Yuelu Academy, theinterpreters have to display the culture of the academy rather than just interpreting wordby word. However, due to lack of experience and a wide range of knowledge, the authorcame across a lot of difficulties in during the interpretation process. There are lots ofreasons for this, but the main reason is that the interpreter’s own language skill is notqualified. Another factor is the lack of interpretation skills and techniques.This report is based on the interpretation of Yuelu Academy, which the author didseveral times in the past two years. The interpretation not only includes the touristattraction itself, but also covers introduction to related cultural background. And theauthor was an escort interpreter during the process while the interpretation wasconducted consecutively. The author tries to reflect the experience in doing theinterpretation and put forward some problems he faced to make a specific analysis,combined with some relevant interpreting theories and techniques. Finally, the authorwishes this report could be a reference for interpretation of other academies and similarscenic spots.
