The Europe and even the world have entered the big change period since the18th century.The British started the industrial revolution and proved to be the leading power of the Europe.The French Revolution of1789greatly shocked the Europe world,The military conflict of the French Revolution and the Europe federal Powers was inevitable.Austria was facing a serious problems of domestic trouble and foreign invasion.As the Austria’s foreign Minister and the Prime Minister,Metternich played the decisive role in the changing era.He created a time that was called "Metternich Times".The reason why the era was in his name was mostly because of his understanding of the times,that was to say,his conservative ideas made him the leader in his era.His views were realistic,and sometimes considered as a sail with the wind.What he wanted was the peace and the order that the ordinary person pursued.The reason why he maintained the old order was not he could not accept the new ideas but it was conductive to preserve the civilization of Europe in his mind.That was to say,his conservative ideas had the reactionary aspect and also had its complexity.The conservatism of Metternich required a strong government at home and the balance coordination abroad.His political system was to maintain the rule of the feudal monarchy.In his view,peace and order was the most important,all of the other was for the two objections.Metternich’s reform focused on the bureaucracy system of the state. His reform was not original but inherited from previous.His success lied in the his understanding of the emperor.He knew what the emperor needed and what he could get.However,due to this point,he could not get the completely trust from the emperor.As a result,his reform was gave up by the emperor eventually.Even so, because of his outstanding achievements in foreign affairs., his reform left enough profound impression to Austria. Metternich’s ideas were conservative view,but sometime he was too idealistic.After the failure one by one,he had to turn to be more conservative.He created a relatively stable era.but after all what he maintained was the feudal autocratic monarchy.The British constitutional pattern he pursued had not realized in the rest of his life.Austria faced the strong opponent and finally lost the qualification of reunification of Germany.The Europe Revolution of1848let Metternich step down from the stage and he was labeled as a reactionary person.What he did in his life was try to let the Europe combine together,and he believed that the real construction time would come after the revolutionary forces were consumed.Metternich’s political attainments not only lied in his diplomatic accomplishment but also lied in he was the great European.He was filled with the hope of social solidarity as well as the international unity in hi mind and action.Politicians like him were very rare.All in all,although he hindered the liberalism of the Europe and repressed the nationalist movement brutal.he was a great European conservatism and the time he created brought a period of peace to Europe.ln that era,what he did was in order to safeguard the interests of Austria.
