Du Jun(1611-1687),whose courtesy name is Yu Huang and assumed name is Cha Cun,was bom in Huanggang,Huguang Provinee,a famous poet during the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. He obained recognition and worship at that time and later ages for his poetry achievement.he was respected and commended by his insistence as a Ming loyalist, with addition of the need to structure local culture,he gained much more highly praise. Both of Deng Zhicheng’s Preliminary Qing poetry annals,Qian Zhonglian’s Qing poetry annals and Yan Dichang’s The history of Qing poetry introduced Du Jun in the chapters disgussing Ming loyalists. His contemporarians such as Fang Bao,Wu Weiye,Wang Shizhen,Xiong Cilv both highly valuated him, some people even compared him as Du Fu,it may be said the greatest esteem.Du Jun gave up his official career in Qing dynasty,he should folly deserve the appellation of Ming loyalist. But since Shen Deqian called his poems as dispiriting,Yuan Mei,Zhu Tingzhen,Hu Qilun,Fang Junshi not only criticized his poem, but also doubted his character, rebuked him contacting with turncoat officials as a Ming loyalist. In order to wash stigma for Du Jun,his backers greatly distanced him from turncoat officials, twisted the truth to lull into a false sense that he split with them. For avoid the malady of following blindly or each takes what he needs,My dissertation first analyzes Du Jun’s life and characters, his mode of existence as a Ming loyalist, analyse his ambivalence to contact with turncoat-officials such as Gong Dingzi,Qian Qianyi, then explore the interaction of his poetry viewpoint and his poem, summarize the major characteristic of his poem, finally explore two widely divergent evaluations of Du Jun, so that I can more accurately drew the outline of the man and his poetry, and estimate his literary achievement more objectivity and justly.
