Vocabulary, the foundation of language, constitutes the basic unit of a sentence.People can’t communicate without vocabulary for it is the carrier of information.Consequently, vocabulary is of great significance on the ground that it takes the taskof reinforcing the vocabulary knowledge students have learned before andsystematizing the vocabulary system as well as boost students’ communicationabilities. Based on five Chinese textbooks at intermediate level and some relatedcognitive language theories, this essay endeavors to put up with some principles onthe vocabulary teaching design and teaching procedures in accordance withvocabulary’s situation function, semantic fields, morpheme, semantic and culturalconnotation, following two vocabulary teaching plans.
