The ongoing globalization has strengthened exchanges between China and foreigncountries, more and more international conferences will be held in China. Simultaneousinterpreting, as one of the main forms of conference interpreting, has since come into beingand prospered in China. In recent years, many universities and institutions have set up MTIprogram, which has further accelerated the research on simultaneous interpreting training. Most learners will turn to course books for self-study and improvement out of the classes;therefore, course books play an important role in simultaneous interpreting training. Currently, simultaneous interpreting course books on the market can be divided into two categories, oneis skill-based; the other is theme-based. The disagreement among different compilingprinciples not only makes interpreting learners confused when choosing their course books, but also is not conducive to simultaneous interpreting training. There are now many articles discussing simultaneous interpreting research in China, butmost of them focus on simultaneous interpreting skills like anticipation, shadowing andsummarizing, etc. only few of them focus on the compilation of simultaneous interpretingcourse books; for those articles that involved research on interpreting course books, most ofthem only discuss interpreting as a whole and didn’t give valuable suggestions according tothe specific features of simultaneous interpreting. The author of this thesis will sort the collected simultaneous interpreting course bookswhich were published in the past ten years in Chinese Mainland and analyze themrespectively, and then circulate questionnaires to one hundred and seventy subjects who areMTI students in seven universities and institutions. Through the survey, the author will get apreliminary understanding of their standards of choosing course books and the actual learningeffect. And finally, based on analysis of data collected from the questionnaires and relevantinterpreting theories, the author will try to give some compiling suggestions and hope toprovide interpreting learners with valuable standards of choosing their simultaneous interpreting course books in the future.
