In the primary stage of teaching Chinese as foreign language, the appropriatetextbooks play a crucial role in triggering the learners’ interest of studying targetlanguage as well as helping them to lay a solid foundation. However, due to thelimitation of vocabulary and grammar, the compilation of textbooks for the primarystage is the most difficult, and therefore it is always a focal issue for numerous experts,scholars and workers of teaching Chinese as foreign language.Along with social changes and constantly rising of learner, the developmentof the related teaching materials has already gained great achievements, but it setshigher requests to the compiling of the teaching materials accordingly, which as aresult still needs to be refined. So this thesis selects two comprehensive textbooks,Boya Chinese, Foundation of Chinese with40Lectures as the objects of myinvestigation, which are commonly used in primary stage at present, and then tries to docomparative study between the both on four aspects such as vocabulary, grammar, text, and theexercise after text. It hopes to distinguish the advantages and shortcomings from the twobooks,and improvements required in order to make the two sets of teaching materials to bettermeet the needs of learners.
