In recent years, with the world-wide fever of Apple’s products, the success of thecompany soon attracts people’s attention. Written in such a social context, InsideApple, since its publication, has provided a distinct answer to the success of the AppleInc. This report aims to elaborate how great ideological thoughts shall be introducedto China by refined translation.Three factors contribute to choosing this book to translate in the section of taskdescription. First, the book preserves a high degree of aesthetic and scientific valueswith an insight into the operation of Silicon Valley tech companies exemplified byApple in the genre of literary reportage. Second, domestic demands for businessbooks in China have seen a great increase in the last decade. At last, the book iswritten in modern American English, making it easily understood. The reportproceeds to address the issue of how to translate it from the following three aspects.First of all, since the Skopos theory is applicable to this type of text,domestication-oriented translation tactics are accordingly employed. Then, thetranslator should be equipped with sufficient background knowledge by makingglossaries before the formal translation work is started. Finally, the draft is completedby proof-reading and peer-editing.In the part of case study, typical examples are picked out for analysis at lexical,semantic, and syntactical levels. At the lexical level, the considerable amount ofproper nouns are classified into several categories, including the categories of people,place, companies, events, and culture-loaded words. In each category, specific tacticsare deployed. At the semantic level, the use of American slangs entails both linguisticappeals and cultural flavours, and sarcastic humors are found amidst the pun usage.The syntactical level tackles the difficulties of translating compound sentences, withthe techniques of the replacement of punctuations, the shift of supplementaryinformation, and the unification of pronouns.
