The quantifier, being the characteristic of Sino-Tibetan languages, is also one ofthe difficulties in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. When students employquantifiers, the phenomenon of the lack of qualifiers and wrong use of quantifiers isquite common.This study has investigated students in grade2011and2012, in theConfucius Institute at University of Antananarivo, FIANARANTSOA university,where Chinese is taught, and researched Madagascar students`use of Chinesequalifiers.The paper mainly consists of the following three parts:Firstly, the introduction and first chapter introduce the relevant research of thequantifiers and the selection of Chinese as a foreign language, and summarize theteaching methods of the following three kinds of qualifiers: cognition, evolution andthe level of qualifiers.Secondly, investigation was carried out among Chinese majors inFIANARANTSOA university through classroom practice, students’ compositioncorpus and questionnaire in order to survey their usage of quantifiers, summarize theresearch results, analyze of bias phenomenon, and conclude the regularity andcharacteristics of bias.Finally, in order to let students grasp Chinese quantifiers better, this paperanalyzes the advantages and disadvantages of hierarchical teaching method, and onthis basis puts forward corresponding teaching strategies.
