Greeting is the guide in speech communication,plays an important role in a successful cross-cultural communication.Using greeting language properly can help regulate,maintain and promote relationships.However?using greetings improperly will cause the failure of communication,even the cultural conflict.So Enough attention should be paid to the greeting in the Chinese teaching.This paper first point out the status of greeting in cross-cultural communication,according to predecessors' research results,summarize the cun*ent research situation of greetings at home and abroad,sum up the inadequacies of class teaching about greeting.In this paper.We divide the greeting into four different types,and then analysis the possible typical misunderstandings of English students when learning Chinese greeting.Through the way of collecting data,find out the usage of greetings in some textbooks in China?guide the design of questionnaire.Through the questionnaire about English students7 usage of greeting,analyzing the biased error of greeting.Finally.put forward some advice about teaching greeting,to solve the problems of improper use of greeting which lead to the failure of communication.We hope that English students can know greeting language well,have a depth understanding of the cultural implications behind the greeting",using more authentic Chinese in verbal communication,reduce cultural interference,setting a good example for Chinese teaching to English students.
