Project Report On The Translation Of Dai People’s Culture And Custom Exhibition

With an increase in foreign culture interactions, culture and custom exhibition material have become the common objects of translation tasks. The translation aims to publicize ethnic culture to foreign countries, and the quality of the translation often influences the success of publicity even the image of a country.This translation project report is based on the Chinese-English of Dai People’s Culture and Custom Exhibition. In view of the length (16,187Chinese characters) and the time limit (7days), a small team was set up to perform this task.By reviewing and analyzing the translation process and the typical cases, the report explores how to ensure quality and speed through reasonable pre-translational preparation and procedure management. In this report, the author puts forward the goal of the translation by analyzing the function, purpose and language style of the source text. With Newmark’s text category theory as guideline, translators alternatively use semantic translation strategy, communicative translation strategy and relevance translation method to solve problems met in the process of translation.
