Memetic Study Of Transmission Of Network Speech

With the development of the society, the emergence of network speech injected a freshblood into everyday language of people. Nowadays, network speech has spread to millions ofhouseholds, with the media as "miraculous" speed. Now, it has become a fashion trend.Network speech is a kind of language variation phenomenon. Its emergence reflects thephenomenon of language in the information age. Language is not only a carrier of culturaltransmission and is also a significant cultural phenomenon. Memetics plays a very importantrole in language study (He Ziran&He Xuelin,2003). From the theory, we can take networkspeech as memes to study its development according to the laws of evolution.As a new theory, Memetics is to study the cultural evolution on basis of Darwin’sbiological evolution theory. According to memetics, meme is similar to gene. Genesreproduce by inheritance; memes propagate through imitation. Memes use the biologicalevolutionary pattern to explore replication, transmission and evolution. The relationshipbetween memes and biology is analogy and metaphor. Because the evolution mechanismbetween biological information and cultural information is in the same. The process ofbiological evolution should satisfy three conditions, which are variation, selection and genetic.Similarly, as a kind of cultural replicator, meme also follows "survival of the fittest" law ofevolution in natural selection (Blackmore,1999). Natural selection exists in the whole processof the emergence and development of memes.This thesis mainly explores the transmission mechanism of network speech from theperspective of memetics. The present thesis researches the Chinese network speech by meansof a qualitative analysis method. Within the framework of memetics, network speech can bethought as a kind of meme. It still studies which can finally survive and become ahigh-quality strong memes, after network speech has went through memes life cycle and thebaptism of competition. The study shows the analysis of the transmission of network speech.And we can gain enlightenment from the thesis. We can have a more in-depth understandingof network speech, and take up a rational dialectical attitude towards the network speech.In addition, as a new theory, memetics mainly explains language phenomena from theperspective of memetics, which applies thinking pattern of evolution to analyze languagedevelopment. Memetics reveals the law of language development, which provides a newperspective for exploring the problem of the language evolution.
