In recent years, with the rapid increase of China’s comprehensive national strength, under the backgroud of the scope of higher education institutions continues to expand, the levels of research deepening constantly, music education major has been unable to meet the educational needs of higher education institutions. Lots of universities including normal universities, have set up a school of music, the art Institute and the department of music which improve the involvements of music education major. At nine conservtory of music in china, the cello performance major which is a unpopular major in traditional sense. But now the thing changed, it become more popular, the qunatity of students expand continuously and the educational target is more clear under the trend of reformation.The hinger education institutions are more like a gathering place for cultivating high-quality talents. The students who apply for is not only demanded better professional skill, but also required the higher overall quality in order to adapt to society, and grasp the opportunity to develop high-quality, new generation of college students.In this eassy, the characteristic of the cello study in higher education institutions will be discussed in three facets through the analysis of the current status of cello teaching.
