Manuel de Falla is the most outstanding representative of Spanish music in the twentieth century. This thesis offers an in-depth description and analysis of Falla’s vocal work:"Seven Popular Spanish Songs"(Siete Canciones Populares Espanolas) in the aspects of musical element, social background, culture concept, and singing techniques.Starting from description of Falla’s life, works, and their influence to Spanish culture, the article further analyzes social background of the works, melodic tonality of Spanish folk music, interpretation and pronunciation of the Spanish lyrics, the meaning of the words, as well as the emotional characteristics. With the clear analysis and understanding, the author combines theory with the practical performing experience, providing a comprehensive analysis of Falla’s work from the view of a vocal performance and education specialty. The article offers unique views and insights for performers with oriental cultural background and little knowledge of Spanish and European culture to perform the works more accurately, and completely. The article also analyzed and studied the performance techniques of Spanish folk songs.
