The musical South Pacific relates about the unforgettable love stories of Mr. Emile de Becque, a middle-aged French plantation owner, and Ms. Nellie Forbush, a naive U.S. Navy nurse, and Mr. Joseph Cable, an aristocrat, and Ms. Liat, a local lady, under the background of wars on South Pacific islands during World War Ⅱ. The character of U.S. Navy nurse, Nellie, runs through the whole musical as the heroine, and presents a female becoming from naive to brave and strong during the World War Ⅱ. In addition, Nellie was also the role I played in my graduation concert.This article analyses and summarizes the role of Nellie, the heroine of the musical South Pacific. The text of this article comprises four sections. The first section introduces the author, background, creation course, plots and characters relationships. The second section analyses the heroine’s character and figure, which refers to the subject of the musical and Nellie’s tangled innermost being-racial barriers. The third section analyses the singing feature and style of Nellie’s major arias. The forth section outlines how I played Nellie combining the theory with practice.
