The Research About Adverbs Reduplicated By Formbuilding In Contemporary Chinese

In contemporary Chinese, it is generally accepted that adverbs are crucial kinds of parts of speech andreduplication is a significant grammatical device. The attention the academia paid to the reduplication ofadverbs which as a worth-studing category in the system of reduplicated forms is far below that of verbs,adjectives, nouns and classifiers. Adverbs that were reduplicated by formbiulding is belong to the inflectionin the morphology. This thesis takes the configural reduplication of adverbs as research object.On the basisof inheriting predecessors’ research results, comprehensively,it analyzed and explored adverbs reduplicatedby formbuilding in three aspects----syntactics,semantics,and pragmatics by collecting numerous corpusand using ThreePlanes Theory.From the perspective of inflection and word-building, this thesis is going to distinguish theconfigural reduplication and inflective reduplication and clarify the nature of adverbs that werereduplicated by formbuilding. It is also going to divide the scope of configural reduplication and classifythem specifically as well as investigate and research adverbs reduplicated by formbuilding by using theThree Planes Theory. The last one is the emphasis of this thesis.In the aspect of syntactic, the thesisinvestigated and researched three aspects of adverbs reduplicated by formbuilding, which are sentencedistribution,position and sequence, the selection of "de". Then, the thesis showed the distribution ofadverbs that were reduplicated by formbuilding in the sentence patterns ofstatement,exclamation,interrogative,imperative,etc. Accordingly, this thesis researched the the positionmodification of adverbs reduplicated by formbuilding in sentences and discussed how to select the affix"de"and studied it’s usage. In the aspect of semantic, the thesis explored and investigated the variation ofomission, addition and emphasis of the primitive sense from the perspectives of the relevance of adverbsreduplicated by formbuilding and subjective quantity, the feature of word-meaning and the feature ofexpressive function. On the relevance of adverbs reduplicated by formbuilding and subjective quantity, thethesis asserted that the thing that adverbs reduplicated by formbuilding emphasized on is the unboundeddegree-quantity,and after the adverbial reduplication, the variation of degree was emphasized, which hastwo characters---subjectivity and obscurity. What’s more, this thesis analyzed the lexical meaning of adverbs reduplicated by formbuilding through corpus, which is abstract and not specific. In the aspect ofmeaning function, reduplication often act as finite adverbial and modificatory adverbial. Furthermore, thethesis summarized the variation of the sense of reduplication and primitive forms. In the aspect ofpragmatics, the thesis researched and analyzed deeply in modality of adverbs reduplicated by formbuildingand linguistic stylistic style. Adverbs that were reduplicated by formbuilding can express fourmodalities---summary, affirm,astonish and obstinate in a sentence and has colloquial linguistic style in apassage. Lastly, this thesis summarized and induced the achievements and results;it also maderecommendations for the relevant researches and made prospect on the research direction.
