Wang Yucheng is one of the earliest writers who criticize the downturn style of the prose populated in the early song dynasty. Wang raised the theory of "respecting classical and developing Confucian orthodoxy", which laid the theory foundation of literature reform movement led by Ou Yangxiuã€Su Shi and so on. So Wang Yucheng should be considered as the pioneer of the Northern Song dynasty literature reform movement.In this chapter the disputes within the retro fiction and the Wang Yucheng’s literary proposition are the main line. The efforts of the writers of "Ancient-Prose Party" to convert the downturn styleã€the different construction of the Rodman tasseled and Confucian orthodoxy due to the writers’different thoughts and Wang Yucheng’s ancient prose theory are all systematically analyzed. Then the thesis points that Wang Yucheng’s contributions contain the following two aspects:the first one is the advocate to inherit the fine tradition of Han-Liu neo-classic movement and to follow the literature theory of "preaching and moral training""articles and moral both emphasized"; the second one is to vigorously advocate the amiable natural literature style instead of the Five-dynasty intricate article style.The second chapter analyses Wang Yucheng’s contributions to the ancient literature movement according to his practical achievements. The author focuses on the characteristics of Wang Yucheng’s prose, such as the attention to reality, the innovation of literary form, the flexible using of writing skills and the concise Confucian orthodoxy; then deeply analyzes the realistic tendency of Wang Yucheng’s prose and his unique prose styles, namely:elegancyã€simple and thin.
