Yu Guangzhong in Taiwan is a well-known poet, essayist, critic and translator, Yu Qiuyu in mainland in recent years is a famous scholar , essayist, cultural historian, dramatic historian. Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's essays display the aesthetic style with scholarly qualities.They explore the new theory of prose in scholarly perspective. Their prose get recognized by all Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait and even Chinese Community Circle . On both sides of the strait it has an important impact on the prosperity of prose that they pursue innovation of prose on the basis of the tradition.The dissertation analyzes Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's writing theory,compare the style and writing skills of their essays,strive to find regularity of the cross-strait prose.The dissertation is comprised of four parts. First,re-think Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's essays. Yu Guangzhong integrates poetry writing into prose to create a strong modern poetic prose. But Yu Guangzhong's prose is not a by-product of his poetry that is as important as his poetry with a unique artistic style . Deviating from the correct track of the literary criticism, "Yu Qiuyu phenomenon" didn't focused on his prose's artistic value but focusded on wrong history and culture details.Yu Qiuyu's prose is a not professional academic essay,therefore,we should explore its artistic value on the base of literary study.Secondly, manifest Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's outlook of prose. Yu Guangzhong advocates "cut off the braids prose," to eliminate the shortcomings of the old prose and create a new prose with flexibility, density and materialt. At the same time the new prose must be placed emphasis on "emotional" and "intellectual" coordination. Yu Qiuyu stesses that a prose is the integration of human,nature and history, through depicting historical and natural landscapes, which contains the historical and cultural value.Thirdly,on Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's artistic style of prose. Yu Guangzhong often uses and the transformates traditional literary images to express missing the Chinese mainland , but in writing methods he refers to the modern Western literature. As a modern scholar,Yu Qiuyu reflects the traditional Chinese culture. Yu Guangzhong indulges in sentimental prose but Yu Qiuyu's essays are somewhat rational.Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's prose seem uninhibited, bold and forceful,meanwhile are feminine.Forthly,on writing skills of Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu's prose.Both Yu Guangzhong and Yu Qiuyu like describing rocks, rain and water.In Yu Guangzhong's prose the landscape is basically a purely natural one but in Yu Qiuyu's prose the landscape implies our national history and culture. Yu Guangzhong's imagination changes rapidly, similar to the "Stream of Consciousness," which is around a core - their own cultural roots. In Yu Qiuyu's prose the imagination largely reduces the historical context, Let historical figures and events resurrect in the reader's mind, so as to enhance the cultural prose's emotional strength. Yu Guangzhong makes many unnormal-state setences, mixing Chinese with foreign languages,mingling with strange words, selecting the ultra-long sentence without punctuation. In Yu Qiuyu's prose there is basically normal languages. He is good at using parallelism, repeat such as classical literary rhetoric skills and focus on the performance of individual words.
