Khaled Hosseini, an Afghan-born American novelist, is the biggest black horse in the international literary circle. His first novel, The Kite Runner, published in2003, is widely acclaimed by the world and wins many prizes. Three years later, Hosseini’s second novel A Thousand Splendid Suns proved that his success isn’t short-lived, caused a "enthusiasm for Hosseini" in worldwide and caught the attention of mainstream media. Both his two novels reflected a complicated and softhearted Muslim world as well as the humanity in Afghanistan world through the gunfire of war.This paper will analyze Hosseini’s two novels, The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, by reading the text and studying the plots, characters and concepts and values of the novels. This paper will put the work into its social and cultural background in order to study it by the approaches of text perusal and detailed analysis.This paper have four parts. The Introduction introduces Khaled Hosseini’s life experience and main works, the research status home and aboard, and the research goal and meaning of this paper. The first chapter introduces the plots of the two novels. The reasons of conflicts under special historical background and the anxiety of Afghan people are analyzed in this chapter. The analysis of reasons of conflicts is based on the perspectives of war, religion and nation, and the analysis of the anxiety of Afghan people is based on the criticism towards religious extremist, the thought of women’s destiny and the lost of personal identity. Chapter two analyzes the main characters in the novels from characters’ life experience and appearances to the reasons of their personality changes. Based on the creative concepts of the two novels, Chapter three analyzes how the author express his thought of humanity and the relations between war and mankind, and how to realized the humanity in the description of war. And how the author represents the spiritual world and humanity development of Afghan people under Islamism culture, and the awakening and return of the spirit in Afghanistan world.
