With the development of economic globalization, cooperation and exchangesbetween countries become more and more frequent in economy, politics, culture,education, tourism, and medicine. Interpreting serves as a bridge of communication, andinterpreters are playing more and more crucial roles. In this practice report, the authorhas chosen the speech content of Northeast Asia international regional tourismdevelopment conference for Chinese to English simultaneous interpretation. The speechcontent includes conference speech one, conference speech two and introduction oftourism resources in Baishan, Jilin Province. The report consists of five chaptersaltogether. The introduction part is the basic knowledge of interpretation, includingdefinition, nature, criterion, process and category. In Chapter one, the author introducestext source and text features, including identity of the interpreter, background of theconference, and introduction of the stuff. In Chapter two, from the aspects ofpreparation work, interpretation process, and post translation, the author describes taskassignment, parallel text, term, task time, quality control, professional comment andauthor’s summary. In Chapter three, the author introduces functional translation theoryand translation strategy, including time, representatives and so on. In Chapter four, theauthor describes case analysis from the aspects of sentence structures, culturalphenomena, and long sentences. Under the guidance of functional translation theory, theinnovation of report attempts to apply Peter Newmark’s communicative translationmethod to solving problems found in the interpreting practice. In Chapter five,according to preparation work, interpretation process, and post translation, the authorsummaries comparison of free interpretation and simultaneous interpretation withtranscription, handling of sudden phenomena, and qualities of a qualified interpreterthrough the practice. The last part is the conclusion of the report.
