Many aspects can influence the learning strategies, including learners’age, learning motives and cultural background and so on. However, among these aspects, learning strategies is one of the most important aspects. The research about LLS is one of the important researches about Second Language Acquit ion.As the most important and fundamental course for the English majors during their college---Intensive Reading course plays a unique role of cultivating the students? interest in their major, taking the basis of professional competence and improving the professional quality. But the educational problems which exist in independent college become more and more clear, which includes the weakness of knowledge foundation, worse self-control ability, not appropriate learning methods and inefficiency of learning and so on. Meanwhile, Students have little knowledge about learning strategies, so it is very hard for them to use the effective learning strategies in the language learning chronically. Therefore, the main target in this paper is to cultivate students’awareness of learning strategies in teaching Intensive Reading.This essay uses the questionnaire of Strategy Inventory for Language learning (SILL), which was designed by Professor Rebecca Oxford. The author selected two classes as the research groups in Yangtze University Arts and Science College in order to know the problems which exist in learning Intensive Reading, and analysis the reasons and find out the effective language learning strategies to solve the problems. The final purpose of this research is to form effective and suitable strategies to learn any courses.The thesis consists of six chapters.Chapter One is the introduction. It introduces the background, purpose, significance and the overview of the thesis.Chapter Two is the literature review which deals with the general theoretical background and the previous researches of language learning strategies and the related research achievement of former scholars.Chapter Three is the pilot study, which includes two parts. Part one is the research, which includes the research participants, questions, considerations, instruments and the research procedure. Various instruments and research methods are employed during the case study, including questionnaires, interviews of students, direct classroom observations, tests to survey the condition of using language learning strategies in language learning strategies and to know students? confusion and thoughts when they use them in order that they we can provide students with the suitable language learning strategies cultivation. Part two describes the analysis of the research. The findings are as follows:(1) according to the questionnaire,89.4percent students don’t use the suitable or related language learning strategies;(2) According to the results of interviews, we find that the influencing factors on the using learning strategies mainly exist in the weakness of knowledge foundation, worse self-control ability, not appropriate learning methods and inefficiency of learning;(3) On the basis of test research, we also find that students didn’t pay more attention to meta-cognitive strategy, cognitive strategy and affective strategy.Chapter Four is the cultivating process of language learning strategies in Intensive Reading. Language learning strategies are behavior or actions which learners use to make language learning more successful, self-directed and enjoyable. According to the research, the author points out some solutions to solve the problems---Raise the awareness of pertinence learning strategies in Intensive Reading. The procedure of this cultivation includes that at first we should present the ways of cultivating the language learning strategy, secondly we should know how to cultivate the LLS, then we talks about the important role of teachers in strategies-based instrument and finally we should set up an evaluation system to evaluate your results. The period of cultivation is one semester. The evaluation system will help us to assess the validity of this cultivation form.Chapter Five describes the results and analysis of the research. The finding is as follows:The data we got from the final exams were computerized and analyzed with the software SPSS15.0. The result shows that English academic achievement will be enhanced after a period of raising the awareness of pertinence learning strategies in Intensive Reading.Chapter Six is conclusion. It concludes the findings and limitations of the present study.According to the previous research, the present study makes the research that the definition of language learning strategy is scientific and system. Every language learner has their own experience, opinion and methods when they learn language. Only we can deal with something in the light of specific conditions, we can form suitable learning strategies for ourselves.
