The study of quasi-affix was generally valued by linguists right afterit’s’ introduction. Among all the quasi-affixes, the quasi-affixdenoting person is an important part. Due to the complexity of Chinesequasi-affixes and quasi-affix denoting person, a lot of further studiesshould be developed. This thesis centers on the present situation of thequasi-affix denoting person, hopefully it will help deepen thecomprehension and understanding of the quasi-affix denoting person.This thesis can be divided into three major parts: the introduction,the main text and the conclusion.The part of introduction is part one. It deals with the present researchstatus quo of the quasi-affix denoting person in modern Chinese, and ittells the vital meaning of the research; also it introduces the researchscope, methodology and the source of its linguistic data.The second part is the main text, and it can be divided into fourchapters.The first chapter fully elaborates the scientific definition of thequasi-affix denoting person and also points out the questions that shouldbe paid attention while confirming the boundaries and the definingstandards of the one morpheme quasi-affixes.The second chapter depicts the five characteristics of one morphemequasi-affixes: flexibility, accessibility, groupment, randomness andspecificity.The third chapter deals with the quasi-affix denoting person’producing paths and generating reasons. There are three major producingpaths: the innate grammaticalization of monosyllable in modern Chinese; the Chinesization of foreign morphemes; the input of some Cantonese words.The generating reasons can be divided as internal ones and external ones.The internal reasons include Famework Principle, Analogy Mechanism,Economic Principle and Mutation Mechanism. The external reasons mainlyinclude the touch of language, the catalyzing of the society and people’ssocio-cultural psychology.The forth chapter discusses the development tendencies of thequasi-affix denoting person and the influence towards the Chinese lexicalsystem. The main tendencies are: the generation of new quasi-affixes, thechange of quasi-affixes into typical affixes, the remaining of thequasi-affixes. Then it follows a discussion of the profound influence ofthe quasi-affix denoting person toward modern Chinese phonetically,semantically and grammatically.The third part is the conclusion part. In this part, the thesis pointsout the vitality of the correct use of quasi-affix denoting person and alsopoints out the things that should be improved in further study.
