Metaphor plays an important role in daily life, as an important and universal language phenomenon and way of thinking. LA METAPHORE VIVE published in1975by Paul Ricoeur, who was a famous philosopher in France, explains the problem of metaphor. His paper absorbed opinions from all other experts and created his own specifically. It has great connection and features. Many linguistic philosophers fail to admit that metaphor has a metaphorical meaning, insisting that a metaphorical statement bears a strict literal meaning. Paul Ricoeur views metaphor as a structure of all meanings, which include direct, utmost and literal meanings. An indirect, additional transformative and vivid meaning is also included, but can only be understood on the basis of the literal meaning. During the development of his thinking, re-thinking is a principle followed all the time. Paul Ricoeur sees it as a behavior which returns to itself. He masters, by thinking again, metaphor and symbol, and the significance for human existence implied in the messages, message as media. At present, our country has a remarkable progress in the research on him. In general, however, it is not still systemic. This paper is based on the research and study of his masterpieces, combining some views from modern scholars of metaphor, explore a deeper research, to analyze and criticize his contribution and limitation, to instruct people in knowing and understanding metaphor correctly, and to promote the research into metaphor in our country.
