| As one of the ancient cross-cultural activities, translation plays an important role in any society. In recent years, translation studies gradually become an independent academic discipline. At the same time, translation criticism as the essential link between translation theory and its practice becomes a major concern. It is an essential component of translation study. Translation practice needs theoretical support. Translated works need to be criticized. The phenomenon of translation needs to be analyzed. Construction of translators needs to be strengthened. All of these can not be separated with translation criticism.The practice of translation criticism in China can be traced back to the period of Buddhist Scripture translation. But comprehensive study on translation criticism began in modern times. From the current situation of translation criticism study, there exist some problems. Translation criticism is still a weak point in translation study. The thesis makes a comprehensive study of translation criticism, which discusses the nature, function, classification, criterion and principle of translation criticism, analyzes the development of translation criticism of China and compares translations criticism in China with it in western traditions. Compared with translation criticism of western traditions, translation criticism in China lacks theoretical support. Also it is relatively unsystematic. Now the most important task is to strengthen our theoretical awareness and learn from excellent western translation criticism theories and methods. At the same time, we should establish our own translation criticism modes based on our own conditions in order to give full play to translation criticism in China. |
