This paper is composed of a translation practice and a translation report. Thetranslation practice contains a source text and a target text. The source text is English andthe target text is Chinese. And the translation report is the analysis of the translationpractice. Also the translation report is the conclusion to the translation practice. Thetranslation practice consists of about10,000Chinese characters and the translation reportconsists of5,000English words.Specifically, the translation report contains the description of the translating task, theprocess of translating, the analysis of the cases, and the conclusion to the translationpractice. In the part of the process of translating, the preparation before translating,translating, and post-translation proofreading are mentioned; in the part of the analysis ofcases, lots of translation difficulties are recited and are dealt with different translationstrategies; then some experience are concluded from the translation practice. Theexperience will be very helpful for the translator in the future.The difficulties in translating The American Revolution are long sentences and agreat many proper nouns, such as person names, place names and historical events. Toovercome the difficulties proper translation strategies should be used. After thistranslation practice, the writer concludes that a translator can get over the difficulty intranslating long sentences by analyzing sentence elements and seizing the sentencebackbone. As for proper nouns, a translator can create a table of proper nouns as areference for the whole translation.
