The language proficiency has been considered as a standard to evaluate the English teacher for a long time in the language teaching field. Therefore, the traditional language teacher education and development mainly focus on the language teachers’ characteristics from language perspective, but overlook teachers’ common characteristics. This paper attempts to break the traditional linguistic theories and linguistic control on second language teachers (mainly referring to the English teachers in China), and to expound English teachers’ professional development from the perspective of constructivism to establish the English teacher’s professional development main body position to realize the language teacher autonomous and continuous professional development.Firstly, this thesis mainly expounds about the purpose of choosing English teacher’s professional development and research significance. Constructivism is the research perspective of this thesis, and then it mainly discusses constructivism definition, basic characteristics and basic theory. And it also puts forward the concept of English teacher’s professional development. And it also studies the contents and the research status in domestic and overseas. It expounds the empirical study purpose, method and significance carefully in the empirical study part. And the empirical study is made in questionnaires and interviews. And analysis data is collected from100English teachers in Jiujiang University in questionnaires to catch the objective research result and it presents date analysis result in chart. This thesis has caught existing problems in the English teacher’s professional development, and the problems including pre-vocation stage development problems and problems existing in the early vocation entry stage of English teachers, as well as the problems in the English teacher’s development vocation stage. Under the guidance of the theory of constructivism, this thesis analyzes the existing English professional development, and it presents pre-entry mechanism development principles and strategies of the early entry of English teacher’s development from the perspective mechanism, and English teachers stage development strategy and development solutions from the perspective of constructivism. Finally, it presents the advice to English teachers’ professional development from the perspective of constructivism, and summarizes implications and suggestions in system.This paper focuses on the application of the operation theory, the theory and reality which combine closely. It firstly reviews the constructivism theory, and then puts forward the professional development of English teachers by empirical research to analyze English teachers’ professional development existing problems, and finally proposes the solution and advice to solve problems. This paper not only introduces constructivism theory, but also applies it to English teachers’ professional development, which is the constructivism extension. Constructivism theory is the theoretical support for English teachers’ professional development.
