A Research On Miufenglin’s Historiography Thought On Cultural Nationalism

This paper took Miu Fenglin’s historical thought as the main research subject. During the study in Nanjing Higher Normal School, influenced by the college’s style of study, Miu formed the strict and conservative academic style. On the historiography thought, Miu was influenced by Liu Yizheng and the western new realism, which emphasized significance of "show ture" in history for the historians. And thus Miu paid special attention to the governing function of historiography. Since Sep.18th, China faced a huge crisis of national subjugation, Miu Fenglin’s cultural nationalism emotion got stronger in the study of historiography. Miu’s historiography thought on cultural nationalism mainly presented in the following three aspects:first, in the study of general history, Miu emphasized the relationship between the national history and the improvement of the national ethnic consciousness; second, through the Confucius centered traditional culture research, Miu intended to elucidate the national culture spirit; third, Miu wanted to study Japanese history, thus people could get more understanding of Japanese history, and aroused of combat consciousness. Finally, this paper argued that Miu’s historiography thought on cultural nationalism would be crucial to the development of the country and nation under concrete historical environment, although it was contradicted with the scientific historiography and therefore remained unknown for a long time.
