The Zen contains many sects, such as the WenziDhyana, the KanhuaDhyana and the MozhaoDhyana. The Buddhist Monk Dahuizonggao spend all his life on the KanhuaDhyana, he thought that we should combined the study of meditation and practice, then he criticized the WenziDhyana and the MozhaoDhyana that they used the wrong ways when studied the meditation. Zonggao had a close ties with the Confucian literati and he fusied the thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism to make his ideology have a further development. He encouraged the Confucian literati to study meditation and his Kanhuadhyana become very popular in Song Dynasty.The thesis regards Dahuizonggao’ideology as the core, introduces his background times and personal experience, according to the relationship between Zonggao and the Confucian literati, discourses his ideology system on dhyana. The thesis is divided into five chapters to discusses Zonggao’s ideology on dhyana.The first chapter of the article introduces the background of Zonggao and his personal experience. Zonggao lived in the occasion of Song Dynasty which was unrest no matter internal and external, he worshiped Wenzhun and Keqin as his teacher and he had a good relationship with the literati. Zonggao was exiled16years for talking about affairs of state, and during this years he disseminated his ideology on dhyana.The second chapter of the article describes Zonggao’s ideology on the syncretism of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism. During his lifetime, Zonggao had a good relationship with the literati, he taught them the ways to study Dhyana. Zonggao fusied the thoughts of Confucianism and Buddhism, he thought that they are consistent in their origin and not contradictory, then he encouraged the literati to study dhyana while they learned the Confucian culture.The third chapter introduces Zonggao’s ideology on dhyana. Zonggao combined the development of LinjiSect, inherited and developed its thoughts, formed his own ideology on dhyana. Zonggao thought that everyone had Buddha-nature, everyone could have a great achievement if they used the right ways to study dhyana.The fourth chapter discourses Zonggao’s KanhuaDhyana and the way, the principle, the purpose when study dhyana. He criticized WenziDhyana and MozhaoDhyana, thought that they used the wrong ways when they studied dhyana, then he advocated his KanhuaDhyana.The last chapter introduced the influence of Zonggao’s KanhuaDhyana. KanhuaDhyana was very popular in that time and had a great influence,NianfoDhyana was effected by KanhuaDhyana and spread for a long time. Zonggao’relationship with literati and his patriotism had a positive effect.
