As one of the main branch of language system, new words have been recordingsocial development and new things in our daily lives, and reflecting the inevitable trendof "co-changing of language and society", and they always tell us what’s the new. Inrecent years, with the change of media society background, increasing attention hasbeen paid to the research of new words. Starting from the year of2006, the StateLanguage Affairs Commission has been releasing the "Report on Chinese LanguageLife Status" which reporting the study of language in various fields in each year.However, the related researches on the communications are still relatively weak.Presently, there is a common research focus on the language system between theresearch of the new words and that of communications research. Therefore, this thesistries to combine both of them together and then put the research emphasis on thecommunications of new words. By selecting the new words of the years from2006to2010as the corpus, this thesis attempts to analyze and discuss the characteristics,communication mode, and communication agent of new words, and the normalizationof communication, from the standpoint of reality observation and thinking, which in theaim to serve as the reference for the present communication research on new words.Meanwhile, this study not only simply analyze the various elements of "5W mode" forthe new words communications in a comprehensive way, but also discusses thecontradiction between the old words with the development of the society and the needof new expression with novelty, and the premises such as it is the main social agent ofnew words communications that the promotion of people’s media literacy under thesocial contradiction.This study mainly composes of five chapters:Chapter1is the introduction. This part is logic start point of the study, whichincluding the background of selecting topic, research significance, researchmethodology, and innovation points, etc. Meanwhile, the author will emphasize ondiscussing the research significances of both the academy and reality from theviewpoint of communications of new words in recent years, and also the literaturereview on the research status at home and abroad.Chapter2is the new words and their characteristics of communications. This partis mainly composed of the definition, the way of generation and classification, andcharacteristics of communications of new words. In the part of definition of new words, the general and special classifications of the new words and also the definition of newwords are discussed. In the part of way of generation and classification of new words,five main classes, i.e., newly created words, loanwords, abbreviations, neology words,and dialect words of new words are identified. In the part of communicationscharacteristics of new words, the principle features in the process of communications ofnew words are discussed in detail.Chapter3deals with the "5W mode" analysis of communication process of newwords. This part of study is the main focus of the thesis. The combination ofquantitative and qualitative study, and also that of theoretic and applied study areadopted. In this part, the "5W mode" of communications is applied to analyze thecommunication subject, the audience, the content, the media, and also the effect ofcommunication. It is thought that the "5W mode" is important to the analysis ofcommunication characteristics, agent and significance.Chapter4is the communication agent and normalization of the new words. Firstly,the social agent, cultural agent and psychological agent of communications of newwords are explained in this part in which the knowledge of social psychology andcommunications are used. And then, in the subpart of normalization of communicationsof new words, the significance of normalization and the main viewpoints ofnormalization science community are explored and discussed.Chapter5concludes the study. This part is the overall conclusion of the study andthe deficiency of the study is also discussed.
