This Research conducts investigation into five Chinese monosyllabiccoordinators ’he’,’er’,’yu’,’ji’,’bing’. It defines the coordinator andfinds the relation between Chinese and English coordinators. Moreover, the research tries to arrange the acquisition sequence of thesemonosyllabic coordinators. This will provide a reference formonosyllabic coordinator teaching and teaching materials’ compiling.Firstly this paper introduces the significance of this research, theoretical basis and the frame of whole article. Secondly it reviews theliterature of the coordinator from the aspects of the thing-in-itself andacquisition. Based on the findings from the review stage, it proposes theidea of this study. On the basis of logic and semantic relations betweenclauses, it re-defines the coordinator as a kind of conjunction thatexpresses parallel relation and links grammar units which of the sameposition syntactically. The coordinator can be divided into two categoriesrespectively: One indicates the coherent relation, the other the reverse relation. And it expresses the parallel, coherent, progressive andadversative relations. This study also analyses the objects and makes acomparison of both Chinese monosyllabic coordinators and the Englishcoordinator ’and’ from the perspective of Syntactic and Semantic, withthe conclusion that they have differences in both aspects. Finally, we make a statistical analysis on the error sentences andobtain the acquisition sequence of the four words as follows:he>er>yu>ji. Meanwhile, we analyzed errors made by overseas studentsand explored the reasons.
