The Study On Loose Seton In High Anal Fistula

Background: Anal fistula is a frequent disease often running a chronic course. Topical thecutting seton form the mainstay of therapy, but much side effects followed. The loose setonis a new technique which can avoid those side effects.It will be an alternative for highfistula.Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the clinical results obtained with the cuttingseton and the loose seton in the surgical management of high fistula.Method: The case records of 22 patients with high fistula caused by cryptoglandularinfecting were treated with cutting seton (n=11) or loose seton(n=11).There was nodifference between the groups in age, sex distribution, or Follow-up was by callquestionnaire inquiring about fistula recurrence, incontinence, general, curative effect, analdeformation and the healing time. Mean follow-up was similar in both groups.Comparisons were made by Student t and X~2 tests, as required.Results: There was no difference in the general curative effect, healing time, recurrence.But complications such as cicatrical deformity, underwear staining and difficulty holdinggas of two groups showed marked difference.Concludes: Both techniques are equally effective in eradicating the high fistula, the analfunction are protected better with loose seton technique.
