ObjectiveOur study aims to find out risk factors of postoperative urinary dysfunction (UD) with radical resection of rectal cancer.Methods1.Object492cases with radical resection of rectal cancer, histologically proven adenocarcinoma of the rectum and without evidence of distant metastases in Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University from2012.6to2013.12were included in this study.2.Observation indexGeneral index: age, sex, preoperative urinary complications.Surgical index: amount of bleeding in operation, type of resection, autonomic nerve damage and preoperative radiotherapy.Pathological index:tumor size, tumor location, tumor height and pathological classification (pTNM).3.Statistical analysisStatistical software SPSS19.0was used for data analysis.P<0.05presents significant difference.ResultsUrinary dysfunction (UD) was reported by15.45percent of patients. Analyzing these possible risk factors, preoperative urinary complications (P<0.001), autonomic nerve damage (P=0.003), amount of bleeding in operation (P=0.045) and abdominoperineal resection (P=0.027) have been proved to be significant. Laparoscopic operation and preoperative radiotherapy was not associated with UD.ConclusionUD is a significant clinical problem after rectal cancer treatment. UD is related to preoperative urinary complications, autonomic nerve damage, amount of bleeding in operation and abdominoperineal resection. Laparoscopic operation was not associated with UD.
