Objective: to observe the CD34and α-Smooth muscle action (α-Smoothmuscle action, α-SMA) expression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma stroma, explorethe cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) protein relationship with invasion andmetastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, elucidate the molecular mechanismcould cause cancer. Methods: using immunohistochemical SP method to detect the guangximedical university affiliated tumor hospital between January2007and January2008in the hospital75cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and20cases ofnasopharyngeal mucosa chronic inflammatory tissue of CD34and α-SMAexpression, to analyze its relationship with clinical pathological characteristicsof patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Results:(1) the nasopharyngeal carcinoma group (observation group)CD34expression exists only in blood vessels, the lack of fibroblast in positiverate10.67%(8/75), and the nasopharyngeal mucosa in chronic inflammatorytissue group (control group) CD34expression in fibroblasts positive, not only thesmall blood vessels is positive, positive rate85.00%(17/20), the differencebetween the two groups have significant statistical significance (χ2=44.933, P<0.01);(2) set of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) α-SMA positive rate81.33% (61/75), higher than the control group10.00%(2/20), with significant differencestatistically significant (χ2=35.967, P<0.01);(3) the nasopharyngeal carcinomapatients with different clinical pathological feature of α-SMA expressionanalysis found that the different age, gender, α-SMA expression differences nostatistical significance (P>0.05), different T staging, TNM staging, whetherlymph node metastasis and distant metastasis of α-SMA expression differencesstatistically significant (P<0.05).(4) CD34and α-SMA expression innasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue showed a negative correlation (r=-0.434, P<0.01).Conclusion:(1) and nasopharyngeal mucosa of chronic inflammation in theorganization into fiber mother cell, compared to nasopharyngeal carcinomastroma phenotypic change into fiber mother cell, characterized by lack of CD34expression and α-SMA high expression.(2) the α-SMA is closely related tonasopharyngeal carcinoma metastasis.
