Objective To explore the changes and clinical significance of white blood cell (WBC) counts and serum interleukin-6(IL-6) level in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD)Methods The WBC counts and serum level of IL-6were detected by the blood cell analyzer and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively, in60patients with different types of CHD[20with acute myocardial infarction (AMI),20with unstable angina pectoris (UAP),20with stable angina pectoris (SAP)] and20controls.Results The WBC and the serum level of IL-6in CHD were higher than that in the controls (t=3.710,6.233,P<0.01). The WBC.neutrophile ratio(NEUT%).neutrophile count (NEUT). neutrophile count/lymphocyte count (N/L) in AMI were higher than that in UAP. SAP and controls (F=10.559~24.228, q=6.389-11.593, p<0.01) The levels of serum IL-6were increased in order of SAP. UAP. AMI, the differences among them were significant (F=29.502, q=3.751~12.005, p<0.01). There was a positive correlation between WBC, NEUT%, NEUT, N/L and serum IL-6in CHD (r=0.312~0.377, p<0.05). The areas under the ROC curve (AUCROC) of WBC. NEUT%. NEUT. N/L and serum IL-6in AMI were0.794,0.983,0.891,0.983,0.970, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of AMI were0.650and0.950.0.950and0.950.0.750and0.950.1.000and0.900.1.000and0.850. The AUCROC of serum level of IL-6in UAP and SAP were0.923.0.753, respectively. And the sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of UAP and SAP were0.800and0.900.1.000and0.500, respectively. Conclusion The changes of WBC counts and serum level of IL-6may be associated with the degree of CHD, which may have a high significance in the diagnosis of CHD.
