Objective:To study the correlation of S-100B protein level in serum, traumatic brain injury degree, diagnosis, and prognosis in brain injury patients.Methods:To collect60patient with traumatic brain injury,30volunteer controls, according to Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), the patients were divided into two group,one is the minor group (GCS≥8points),the other is the severe group (GCS<8) points. The volunteer group were taken serum samples only once. The TBI patients were taken serum samples at early time(2-6h), Id,2d,3d,5d,7d,10d after the injury except the dead. The S-100B in serum was measured by ELISA object, then compared the level of the S-100B in serum at different times after injury. All patients were assessed by Glasgow outcome scale(GOS) after the15th,then they were divided into two group,one is the good prognosis group,the other is the poor prognosis group.Results:The serum S-100B protein levels had significant difference between the control group and the brain injury patients (P<0.05) except the tenth of the brain injury patients (GCS8scores group),there were marked differences between GCS>8scores group and GCS≤8scores group,and in different prognosis groups (P<0.05). The level of S-100B in serum of the patients with traumatic brain injury is negative correlation with GCS score(-1<r<0), GOS score (-1<r<0), The higher lever of the S-100B protein in serum, the more severe brain injury, the worse prognosis. Conclusion:It is helpful to the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury and the severe degree of judgment to detect the serum S-100B protein levels of the TBI patient at early time. The serum S-100B protein is an effective biochem-ical indicator, it can provide the theory basis for the diagnosis and the prognosis of traumatic brain injury, It can be a new means in judgment and prognosis of the traumatic brain injury degree. The higher lever of the S-100B protein in serum, the more severe brain injury, the worse prognosis. It will be more helpful to the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury, the judgement of traumatic brain injury degree and the prognosis to combine with the clinical symptoms, signs and head CT and MRI.
