Objective: To analyze the clinical features of huge mediastinal tumors,andexplore the surgical treatment methods of the huge mediastinal tumors.Methods: Between January2009to November2013in our hospital44ca-ses of giant mediastinal tumor cases were retrospectively analyzed. Summary oftheir age, sex, clinical,symptoms, radiographic, confining circumstances operat-ive preparation, Incision type, surgical approach, postoperative complicationsand prognosis aspects.Results:24males and20females, aged13-76years old. The mainsymptoms is cough,chest tightness, shortness of breath and so on. Most of thetumors in the upper of mediastinum,the second is in the front and upper of themediastinum, Many pathological types: teratoma are majority,benign in28cases (63.6%), malignant in16cases (36.4%). Preoperative preparation is todeal with complications.The different tumor have different degree of adhesionand infiltration. The most is the lateral incision。Complete removal of the37cases,6cases partial nephrectomy, unable to resection in1case. The majorpostoperative complications is pulmonary edema. Benign tumor prognosis isgood, malignant tumor with poor prognosis. Conclusion: Huge mediastinal tumor volume is big, have different clinicalmanifestations, give priority to with cough, pathological type, tumor location,the nature and the surrounding infiltration degree, determines the operation in adifferent way.
