Objective: To study the clinical characteristic、the methods and therapeuticeffects about surgical treatments of metastasis in limbs.Methods:126cases with surgical therapy of metastatic bone tumor admittedfrom2007to2012were reviewed from several aspects. There were69male patientsand57female patients, the average age of65.8years. These operations includingtumor prosthetic replacement, prosthesis replacement, cement and intramedullarynailing or plate fixation, enbolc inactivated or limbs abbreviation and plate fixation, and external fixation support. Pain and QOL were evaluated before and after surgery.Pain was assessed with a10-point scale before and1month after surgery. The QOLwas evaluated with the SF-36scale before and3months after surgery. Limb functionwas evaluated with the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society scale (MSTS)3months aftersurgery. Results: All procedures were successfully performed. Post-operativecomplications were found in11patients, Including ARDS, stress ulcer, cerebralinfarction, deep vein thrombosis, acute renal failure, incision infection, prosthesisdislocation. Follow-up was performed for3-60months (mean:3months). The painscore before and1month after surgery was6.85±3.11and1.26±0.81, respectively, indicating obvious improvement (t=9.978, P<0.001). The QOL score before and3months after surgery was38.30±13.05and65.78±10.65, respectively, indicatingpronounced improvement (t=-18.550,P<0.001). The mean post-operative MSTS scorewas23±3(range:17-30)(t=-1.450, P=0.016).There is no different in local controlbetween wide and marginal resection. Conclusion: For the patients with metastasis in limbs, the surgical treatmentscould result in the pain-relieving、limbs function and life-improving. |
